Old Farm Day

I've been waiting and waiting for fall to arrive, and it finally seems to be here!! Fall is my favorite season, and I've been a little irritated with mother nature this year, as last week we had a 98 degree high! This past week she has redeemed herself by providing lots of nourishing rain, and now one of the most beautiful fall days EVER (maybe it's just my perception).

Anyway, today Fluvanna County held its annual "Old Farm Day". This is the first year I've heard of it, so maybe we live under a rock, but I will eagerly participate in any kind of festival, especially one so close to our house.

They had dozens and dozens of vendors, selling all kinds of homemade crafts, soaps, clocks, etc.
There was a petting zoo with a variety of farm animals, and contests for kids to participate in. There were two blue grass bands playing in separate parts of the park, along with several food vendors. I ended up getting us a couple of hot dogs, but I later regretted it because there was pulled pork barbeque. Oh well!

There were a lot of free activities/goodies too. Noel had her face painted, received two prizes for picking two suckers from a hay bale, and got a balloon. I tried tying the balloon around her wrist, but she got so angry with me that she fell to the ground, sobbing. I figured there was no point in drama, so I let her carry her balloon, with a warning that if she let it go, then it would go "bye bye". She let it go once, and I quickly caught the string. Whew!

We went into a tent to see a bee hive, and she let it go again...twice. We were fortunate enough that there was a gentleman and his son offered to get it for her BOTH times. As soon as we left that tent, she saw the hay bale full of suckers, and immediately let it go. I wasn't fast enough to catch it, so away it went. Noel kept asking "Where balloon go?" over and over for the remainder of the afternoon (actually she's still asking).

Here are some pictures

How Cow?

Chickens!

I was proud of her for identifying the sheep! She's never seen a real sheep before.

Play-Doh!

Time for hot dogs and goldfish :)

Do you see the queen bee??Face painting - she did pretty well sitting still!

"Ooohhhh a Bah-fii"

Don't worry, we threw the sucker away right after this!
