"Pop-tai"

Noel adores popsicles. ADORES. I think most children like them of course, but popsicles are ALWAYS on her mind.

The other night she had a hard time getting to sleep, and I went in to her and she said "pop-tai, mommy?"

Anyway, tonight we were enjoying one of our popsicles and I was trying to get her to say "popsicle" in the first one, but I didn't think you could hear it.

Then when I asked her again for the second video, she said "Pop-tai, mommy!"

We make our own popsicles - they are made with a very short and simple list of ingredients.

1 c sugar
1 box jello
1 packet kool-aid

So far we've had Tropical punch, and a mix of Peach + Cherry. Next I'm doing Lemon Jello + Pink Lemonade Kool-aid. They DO have a lot of sugar in them, but they are special treats and are perfect for summer. It won't be long before pop-tai season is over, and we'll be getting ready for the holidays!

House Tour: Part 1

I thought I'd let all of you see our new house, up close and personal. It allows me to feel somewhat accomplished, to see all of the changes we've made and are still making to our new house. And since we live so far away from pretty much all of our friends and family, I thought I'd share!

This was the master bedroom before we moved in:

And this is our bedroom today:

Eventually I would like to move the chest of drawers farther to the left and replace our tube TV with an LCD that we can mount on the wall. Oh to dream!

Our bedroom furniture belonged to my grandparents and they were nice enough to "donate" it to us since we were in dire need of a bedroom suite!

We painted the walls Olympic "Toasted Almond" and the trim "Off White". We installed faux wood blinds in the windows, and we also replaced the carpet with laminate flooring that matched the rest of the house. With dogs, we figured we needed flooring that would stand the test of time and would be "easy clean-up". The one thing I DON'T like about the floors is that the dogs sound like they're tap dancing when they walk across, and we can no longer have them in our bedroom at night! We have to use a baby gate to keep them in the living room...

It's actually quite smaller than our previous bedroom, but the bonus is that we have two walk-in closets, so plenty of space for clothes and storage!

This is one of my favorite pictures from our wedding that I photoshopped myself (there was a power line right behind us). It's old home was my desk at work, but now it sits atop my night stand. The Mill Mountain Star is visible in the background, which is a place that is very special to us - Tim proposed to me at the star!

And for some reason, I can't seem to find our alarm clocks, so that's why they aren't present in these pictures. The joys of moving! :)

This is a small jewelry box that my friend April gave me as a Maid-of-Honor gift for her wedding. The good thing about my initials before we got married and my initials now, is that they work for both! It just depends on how you display the monogram. I LOVE my little jewelry box and keep all of my frequently-worn items in here.

This was a gift from my sister when Tim and I were married. She presented it to us during her toast at the reception - it was a perfect toast and a very thoughtful idea! We loved it!

Inside is a little compass, to show us the way! It's also kinda cool because I was a geography major at Tech. Very neat idea :)

I plan on finishing the tour of our home, but they will be posted as the rooms become "done". :) Our guest room doesn't have blinds yet, and Noel's room is also in a state of transition.

Tim's flower bed should be completed soon too, and I'll post pictures of that!

Quick snack

After helping mommy shuck corn before dinner, Noel grabbed some goldfish from the cabinet for a quick snack!

I like these pictures especially because of how LONG and BLONDE her hair looks. What a beautiful little girl she's becoming - no longer a baby!

Sweat Equity

If you ever have a chance, I would highly recommend the show "Sweat Equity" on the DIY channel. I've learned a wealth of information and it's always interesting to see how a home transforms!

Tim has been performing his own 'sweat equity' ever since we moved - he pressure washed the exterior of the house, and has begun digging out the flower bed in front. The original flower bed only extended out in front of the porch, which was done incorrectly. He's making it so that all of the garden stones are level, and extend over to the end of the house. We're also putting one on the right side of the porch.

He's also burned a ton of brush in the yard, so the half acre next to the house appears much more "park-like".

So far there hasn't been a huge transformation, but we're getting there one step at a time. Next spring we plan to have all of our shrubs/flowers planted.

Before

Now

Next on Tim's list is front porch staining/sealing, and painting the shutters/front door. For now, my entire list consists of painting the Master Bath (again, too dark!) and touching up other areas around the house.
